Meiji Jingu

明治神宮

👀 SEE

Also known as Meiji Shrine

A Shinto shrine tucked inside a 170-acre forest, one step from Harajuku Station. Built 1920 to honor Emperor Meiji, destroyed in WWII, rebuilt by volunteers in 1958. The 10-minute walk through the forested approach to the main shrine is the draw — you step out of central Tokyo's noise into something genuinely quiet. Not uncommon to catch a traditional Japanese wedding procession in full kimono.
