Kifune Shrine

貴船神社

👀 SEE

Also known as Kibune Shrine

A mountain shrine in Kibune with the famous red-lantern stone stairway. Year-round pretty, but the leaves fall earlier here than central Kyoto because the mountain runs cooler. Their water omikuji is the fun one: blank slip dipped in shrine water reveals your fortune, with a QR code to translate to English. Kibune is also a summer heat escape — noticeably cooler than the city.

Type shrine, autumn leaves, water omikuji
💡 Local tips
  • Try the water omikuji — fortune appears when dipped, QR translates to English.
  • Cooler than central Kyoto in summer; leaves peak earlier in autumn.
⚠️ Heads up
  • Many Kibune restaurants close on off-season weekdays — check hours before a late lunch.
