Yasaka Pagoda (Hokan-ji)

法観寺八坂の塔

👀 SEE

Also known as Hokanji, Yasaka no To, Hokanji Temple

The five-story pagoda that dominates every Kyoto Instagram feed — last standing structure of the 6th-century Hokan-ji Temple, wedged between traditional machiya homes on a narrow Higashiyama lane. In peak season it's packed by 7:30am; if you're not in spring or autumn, dawn still clears it. The usual walk in is down from Kiyomizu-dera via Ninenzaka.

💡 Local tip
  • Off-peak months, dawn = empty shot. Peak autumn/spring, accept people in frame.
⚠️ Heads up
  • Nearby Starbucks has a 30-minute line before it opens in peak season — plan coffee elsewhere (Kefu Stand is next door).
