Season
Early-season snow
Early in the season small snowfields can still lie on the high Vant dei Piazedìai (about 2,050 m) on the stage from Rifugio Sommariva to Pian de Fontana. No official snow bulletin for the route was found.

Biella · Booking opens
Rifugio Biella (the first hut, above Lago di Braies): bookings for 2027 open on 1 November 2026 according to the hut's text; a banner on the same page says 15 November, so confirm the date with the hut. A 50% deposit is taken and is not refundable. The hut opens in June 2027.

Where to book refuges
There is no single booking platform for the Alta Via 1. Each rifugio takes reservations on its own website, form or phone, and each sets its own opening dates, deposits and cancellation terms. Some CAI huts, such as Rifugio Nuvolau, are also bookable on the national CAI portal prenotarifugi.cai.it, which lists 'Alta via 1 Dolomiti' among the routes passing the hut.

Carestiato · Booking opens
Rifugio Carestiato (CAI Agordo): 2027 bookings open on 2 November 2026, online only.

Dolomiti bellunesi · Season
The huts inside the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park (which include Rifugio Pian de Fontana and Rifugio 7 Alpini on the southern end of the route) are open in summer, usually June to September; contact each manager for other periods.

Lagazuoi · Booking terms
Rifugio Lagazuoi (2,752 m, the highest point of the route): a 50% deposit is held at booking and is never refunded; cancelling in the last 3 days or not showing up forfeits the whole booking. 2026 summer prices: dormitory bed with breakfast €85 per person, dinner (half board) €35, double room with breakfast €250 per room. Summer 2027 opening dates and prices were not published on 18 October 2026.

Lagazuoi · Rooms
Rifugio Lagazuoi has both private rooms (first floor, some with a balcony, renovated in 2024, shared bathrooms on the floor) and dormitories with bunk beds. The hut notes that private-room availability is limited.

Rifugio Nuvolau (CAI Cortina) is planned to be open 20 June to 20 September 2027; summer only. 2027 bookings open in January 2027 on the hut's own website.

Refuge opening dates
Official tourism sources give the hut season as June to September. Individual huts differ: some open in late May or early June and a few stay open into October, others open mid-June and close around 20 September. In June and September some huts are not yet open or have already closed; confirm every night with the hut.

Pian de fontana · Season
Rifugio Pian de Fontana (CAI Longarone, 1,632 m): 2026 season was Saturday 6 June to Wednesday 30 September. The 2027 season had not been published on 18 October 2026.

Settimo alpini · Season
Rifugio 7 Alpini (CAI Belluno, Pis Pilon, 1,502 m, the last hut): 2026 season was 30 May to 27 September, with a few October weekend openings depending on weather. The 2027 season had not been published on 18 October 2026. The hut rents ferrata kits (by reservation).

Rifugio Vazzoler (CAI Conegliano): 2027 bookings open on 1 November 2026 at 12:00, postponed from the originally announced 5 October.

Rifugio Venezia (CAI Venezia, under the Pelmo): 2026 season was 13 June to 20 September. The 2027 season had not been published on 18 October 2026.

Permits & quotas
Braies bus booking
While the Braies valley traffic regulation is active, the buses to Lago di Braies (lines 439 and 442) must be booked and prepaid online; Mobilcard and guest cards are not valid in that period. From 16 September line 442 (from Dobbiaco/Toblach and Villabassa/Niederdorf) needs no reservation and takes cash on board. Walking to the lake from Ferrara or the railway stations of Monguelfo or Villabassa is always unrestricted.

Braies valley traffic 2026
Lago di Braies / Pragser Wildsee, 1 July to 15 September 2026: between 9:00 and 16:00 the Braies valley could be entered by public transport, on foot or by bike, or by car only with an online reservation or a valid transit permit. Arriving before 9:00 was allowed but did not guarantee parking. Restrictions ended on 16 September 2026; from then no reservation is needed (except the Prato Piazza toll road).

Braies valley traffic 2027
Traffic regulation of the Braies valley will be in place again in summer 2027; the dates, hours and booking rules had not been published on 18 October 2026 (the tourist association says details follow in spring 2027). The 2026 scheme ran 1 July to 15 September, 9:00 to 16:00.

Camping · Ampezzo park
Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites (Nuvolau, Croda da Lago and Cinque Torri area): camping with tents and campervans is not allowed in the park; sleep in the huts or in the valley. The regulation is published by Cortina's tourism site (undated; file dated December 2024).

Fees
Braies combined ticket 2026
In 2026 the combined ticket for driving to Lago di Braies during the regulated hours cost €44: a full-day transit permit, a guaranteed parking spot and a €22 voucher for local restaurants and shops (the voucher only with advance booking). 2027 prices not yet published.
